My dear young friends, how are you all doing this morning? I
always get very excited when I get an opportunity to engage with young minds.
So much energy, so much enthusiasm, so much positivity that I always take home
Today is a day of great joy for you and pride for your
parents. You are at one of the most exciting stepping-stones of your life. The
path that you will henceforth take, will decide your future life. All of you
have had excellent education here at xxx school. Now is the time to put all the
academics and values you have learnt to practical use. Life away from the
protected environments of a school will come with it’s own set of fun and
challenges. Be open to taking each of them. This will make you resilient individuals.
I would like to give you my 5 key takeaways for you:
No. 1: Graduation life in whichever country you
choose will come with its own entourage of challenges. At all such times
remember – believe in yourself, your gut feeling. The gut is always right.
Listen to it.
No. 2: In the next 3 or 4 years of your
graduation life – find what you love, if you haven’t yet found it. After that
indulge in it as deeply as possible. Most importantly love what you do. Because,
once you fall in love with your true calling, then there is no stopping you.
No. 3: Be passionate. Give your 200% in whatever
you do. Get to college with a fire to learn and ambition to discover the
wonders of the world. Never let your passion ebb.
No. 4: Develop of mindset of free and
independent thinking. Never be afraid to take the path less trodden. Be
courageous. I always tell this to the people who work with me – it is the
attitude and not the aptitude that decides the altitude of your success.
No. 5 and my final and most important point –
your time on this planet is limited. Hence, live each day, as it will be your
last day. Develop a heart full of love, compassion, humility and service to
others. Once you build this into your DNA, without your knowledge you will
become a happy individual. And a happy individual is always a pleasure to be
with. Do good and be good!
Never let your gender come in between your dreams and
aspirations. You are better than men in every aspect of life. Be proud to be a
woman. Create an impact on the work with you work. Lead a remarkable legacy
behind you, wherever you go.
You know Margaret Thatcher once said, “If you want something
said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman.” All the power of the
world is within you. Go and find it.
Remember your teachers, remember your Alma mater. These
great institutions are the places that shape your individuality and character. I
am sure once you step out of the portal of xxx school, go and conquer the
world; your Alma mater will be delighted to have you back!
I would like to end my address with one of my most favorite
quotes by Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by
the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore.
Thank you xxx for inviting me to this lovely occasion. Wishing
all the young and bright minds here, the very best in your next steps in life.
